France has many beautiful sights, and they even have a genuine volcano, Puy-de-Dôme. Fortunately, the volcano was extinguished 10,000 years ago, but nevertheless it has been the site of a Roman temple to the god Mercury, and today there is also an observatory.
The volcano has half a million visitors a year, and when visiting Puy-de-Dôme, you can take both car and bus. But between 1907 and 1926, they took the train.
A beautiful idyllic train ride from Clermont-Ferrand to the top of the Puy-de-Dôme, where you could enjoy both the view and the history.
The railway from Clermont-Ferrand to Puy-de-Dôme was then run by the railway company PLM, which for the same reason had this beautiful travel poster made, so that they could entice more people to take the train in the French countryside, and enjoy the journey from a train compartment.
